She fell, head forward into the darkness. Five, four, three, two one … splash. Her face broke through the surface of the pool of liquid that was waiting at the end of her fall and her whole body dived into something warm. For a moment it felt cosy, like a warm embrace that would never let her go … until it did. While gravity tried to pull her even deeper into the warmth, her basic instincts kicked in and she pushed herself upward until her face broke through the surface, letting her automatically gasp for air that wasn’t there. She hated her body for doing so, that the primal part of her brain was still fighting for its survival even if it didn’t matter anymore. She was now drifting on her back, eyes still closed so she wouldn’t have to see her surroundings. She didn’t need to. She knew exactly where she was and how everything was looking like, even with her eyes closed she could recall it out of her memory.
